I usually reckon between 300-1000 is about right so I downsample to approximately arrive at that figure although it's very rule of thumb (over 1500 sources takes much longer to solve).

Set resolution of your astronomical image or the focal length of scope used to capture the target. Then click on Search and enter the name of your target, i.e. M101. It will run and usually find your target.
